1. Veronica Ford has said that Amy is one of her favorite characters. Which characters did you like best? Least? Why? Has this changed from Book 1?

2. As opposed to Book 1, in Devil's in the Details Luna is meeting many new magical characters. What do you think of them? Why do you think they're beginning to enter her life in increasing numbers? 

3. What do you think of Albert? Where do you think he came from? Is he an effective foil character for Amy? (a foil character is one that reflects another character in the book, often through opposing behaviors or changes). Why is he there?

4. How does Luna change in Devil's in the Details? 

5. Were you surprised by the "big reveal" at the end, or did you suspect it beforehand? Looking back, do you see any clues in either Devil's in the Details or Deals with the Devil that led up to this?

6. What about the "big reveal" in the beginning, concerning Nicki? Looking back to Devil's in the Details, do you see any clues to this? What else do we learn about Nicki? 

7. Luna's final effort to learn who she is involves letting go of all of her inhibitions. What purpose have those inhibitions served? Do you think, in "real" life, inhibitions can be healthy? Or do you think we should abandon them? What would happen if we did?

8. Has your opinion of Gram changed at the end of Book 2?

15. Sabrina begins her adventures with Luna in Book 1 as an excited, enthusiastic young undergraduate student. In Book 2 some negative things happen to her. Do you think she's starting to feel uncomfortable with magic? Do you think Luna should cut her out of the coven to keep her safe?

16. What do you think about Abigail and her big reveal? Where could that plot point possibly go? What does the future hold for Abigail?

17. Luna's mother is a much bigger part of the story in Devil's in the Details, even though she's not actually present in the book. How do you think learning the truth about her mother affects Luna? How does it effect her relationships with Naasira and her Gram? Where do you think her mother is?

Questions about the structure and literary devices of the novel

1. There isn't a single, clear "villain" in Book 2, although there is at least one character who's pretty shady. What, then, is the over-riding obstacle or conflict for Luna? Do you think it was resolved?

2. The story as told by Luna is bookended with two scenes that occur outside of the story. What do these two scenes reveal about Luna, about magic, about central or upcoming conflicts in the series? What do they foreshadow?

3. On her website, Veronica Ford reveals background information about some of the chapter titles throughout the series. Which chapter titles in Devil's in the Details did you find most intriguing? Why?

4. How did the setting impact the story? Do you feel like the setting was a mere backdrop, or more like another character in the story? What parts of the setting really stand out for you?

5. In Book 1, Luna thinks about and interacts with literature often (she is, after all, an English professor). In Book 2, however, while she still thinks about literature, she spends more time thinking about and interacting with music. Why do you think this is? What does it reveal about Luna, her world, and the past, present, and future events of the story?

6. In Devil's in the Details, Luna runs through the woods on two separate occasions; in each of these, the run ends in a hunt. What entices her the first time? What entices her the second time? 

7. Luna's second hunt through the woods is A VERY BIG DEAL. What parallels do you see between the two hunts? How are they different?
